I've used a 4 panel system live only once (mainly because i didn't have a
portable system till just before the last gig.) I set up a basic patch
beforehand and played with it during the performance.
I had a custom case built for it by the people who build custom projector
cases for In Focus Systems here in Portland. It's a wonderful case that
houses the PS6 and the distribution rails. all i have to do is plug it in.
It's on wheels with a telescoping handle. When your old and funky like me,
this is a god send. Only problem is that it's a little bulky. I can get it int
o my car but ther's room for little else. Right now i've lent it to Dave
Fulton for his gig in Philadelphia in Oct. He has some of his MOTM system in
it. I downsized and did the usual 3 panels in a SKB case with the
distribution rails mounted inside. I like it alot better but it's rather
redundant having the 3 panel system sitting in the studio next to the main
frame so I've decided to sell most of the panels in the case and just take
what i want from the main frame when it's time to play live. My set up for
the last gig was: 4 panels Serge (no TKB) / Juno 106 / Oberheim OB-Mx (10
voice) / Virus B rack / E-Mu Vintage keyes / Lexi MPX 500 / Yamaha Rev 5 (
or something like that, can't remember) / Anatek SMP 7 ( Midi router)
/ Oberheim Cyclone and a small Mackie mixer. Except for the Serge, this was
my set up when i played Philly in 2000 at the Gathering. I added the Serge
last year for our gig at the Old Church last year here in Portland. This will
be on the "live" CD sometime toward the end of this year.
Right now I'm trying to convince Dave that the next gig should be ---- No
Keyboards!!! hahaha. He's having a tough time with that one. Just take the
modulars; his MOTM and Doepfer and my Serge. Maybe a few controlers like
Cyclones and Doepfer Trigger Sequencers, but no keyboards. Could be fun. we
shall see.
Kind regards
John DuVal
