Re: Controlling Serge with other equipment

You'd just use a single cable to connect each ground, from your Serge to Dotcom, then use your adaptor cables.
And have fun! Congrats!

I am about to get my first Serge panel, which I plan to use with my Dotcom modular, so this topic is, well, topical to me. I've been holding on a Dotcom banana jack interface (8 1/4" to banana jack pairs) for just such a purpose, but I just took a look at it, and there is no grounding whatsoever.

Each banana jack is connected to the 1/4" jacks by one wire, but the 1/4" jack grounds aren't connected to each other, much less to an external jack. From the description below, this doesn't sound quite right, unless the jacks are grounded by the aluminum panel? There would be room on the panel to add another banana jack and wire it to the 1/4" jacks if needed.

I haven't encountered grounding issues in my modular before, so please forgive the newbie question. My module selection pretty much necessitates using it in conjunction with my existing system, so I'd like to get this figured out before my panel arrives (hopefully tomorrow!). A handful of 1/4" to banana plug cables made by Rex are included, so that should help me get started. Will those have a ground wire split of to the psu?

This issue has always confused me a bit.

Thanks,
Brian

you can get Metalbox or Modcan banana<->1/4" adapters.. a custom one is quite simple to make... the tips goes to the banana and the sleeve to the SERGE PSU ground.. just connect all the 1/4" grounds together and then to a banana terminal that can be plugged to your SERGE's PSU ground terminal

just as long as the gate level is between +5 & +10 volts.. I' ve used MIDI2CV converter to drive my panels, some times the 606 trig out, or MOTU VOLTA, or the FLAME clock converter. .. its all pretty standard on the SERGE side. . (i think: )

... you can also run your analog clock through a TimeGen Clock, a DSG or a DTG to change it; changing the duty cycle or slewing the clock can yield interesting grooves

my SAM and SERGE get along quite well btw

Hi,

I'm currently contemplating my first Serge purchase but was wondering
how you all sync your Serge equipment to non-banana 1/4" (or even
1/8") jacks for CV/Gate?

How easy would it be to control, say a Creature panel with something
like the SND Sam-16?

Thanks,
Stephen
