I've been interested in generating CV via Max and my audio interface for some time, as well, and followed the discussions on the max list and elsewhere. Historically, people seemed to have the best luck with MOTU devices but the stance of their representatives was that such experimentation was not advised and perhaps even potentially destructive to the output circuitry.
I'll definitely be following the use of Volta 'in the wild' before I bow down, so to speak, but this is something I've hoped for since I started using a Nord G2 in conjunction with my first analog modular (Blacet, Evenfall MM). I like Dennis' idea about recording CV, as well. That would be truly innovative!
