i had a expressionist for three years and ued it to drive my Serge with no problems whatso ever. check for grounding problems or bad cable. I had mine hooked up to dual CVI modules that gave me visual status to CV and Gate functions. Frivolous for most users here i'm sure but i found it invaluable. . . being a visual type of person. Anyway check your cables, grounding and setting on the expressionist. Or call Rex. He has used these i believe, or call Tony.

I've tried two different types of 1/4" to banana cable and fooled with
the Expressionists settings quite a bit and I get all kinds of erratic
behavior. Even a 1/4" to banana cable connected to the 1V/OCT, or VC F
inputs generates a sort of FM -- probably from the noise of an open
connection.
