Please correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the reasoning behind Rex not
selling individual modules was down to him not wanting STS to expand beyond
his capabilties or wishes. I'm sure R&D costs are prohibitive for new
modules
but if Modcan and Wiard can do it I'm sure Rex could *if he wanted to*.
I'm sure Rex knows that if individual modules were available then he'd
attract far more many
customers - but that would maybe mean employing more people - expanding work
premises,
and an added workload that wouldn't allow his beloved weekends off playing
blues, whatever.
I know what its like running a small record label.... keep it nice and tight
and don't expand too much and you
can last a lot longer - despite the temptation of increased profits that go
with more releases, etc.
Also - I have one more point that I'd like your opinions on. STS is unique
in my view (Moog CE excepted), in that
Rex bought the rights to manufacture a system that was originally concieved
by somebody else. I think it could be considered
'unethical' for Rex to introduce new modules into the Serge system..... I
know he has modified and *improved* existing modules
as well as introducing some Midi_CV/Logic modules/Pulse Divider modules but
nothing completely radical. After all... this is
a SERGE music system under manufacture by STS.
What would you think if a company bought the rights to manufacture the
Buchla 100 or 200 Music Box's - and then started adding
their own modules into the system without Don Buchla's involvement???
Personally I would *love* to see Rex get more involved in aiding Grant R.
with the Wiard system or a totally new design.
Any thoughts?
