#1 tip for JP6 owners: never turn unison mode off. :) That alone is the
reason I kept my JP6 all these years. Well, the highpass/bandpass modes
helped too! The MKS-80 will do unison which is just as fat, but its filter
is not as flexible as the JP6's.

hi,

This is true to some degree, I mean the Jupiter 6 is
almost unusable for most sounds without it. However
the problem with unison is the sound starts to get
harsh/distorted/overdriven whatever as you crank all
those friggin osc out the same outputs at the same
pitch. This is especially true on the Jup-8 where the
sound is radically changed and, IMO, just sounds
terrible for 95% of most patches.

Cya!

I wouldn't agree with that. Maybe it isn't readily useful for the sound
you want to create, but the JP-6 is quite the versatile synth. Though, if
you say that about the JP-6, you should also say that about all of the
other synths that use the same CEM hardware. ;-)

That can be remedied by turning the volume down. ;-)

I'm surprised you think the JP-8 sounds terrible! I rather like it and it
definitely has its uses, though I don't own one nor plan to. I just didn't
groove with it like others have but I certainly can see its attraction.

Huh?!!?... I totally disagree, I find the JP-6 to sound very good _without_
unison... The JP-6 cuts very easily into a mix, and you don=B4t have to
tweak
everything on your mixer to get it sound right... I can=B4t say this about
most other synths...

Did I say never turn unison off? If so, I didn't mean to imply that the JP6

was useless without unison, I just thought that using unison would help him
change his mind about the 6. You can create many different types of sounds
on it, strings / pads included. In my opinion, its a really nice general
analog synth, especially useful if you have the Europa mod for extensive
MIDI control.

Here's a tip for you MKS-80 guys :

Synchronize VCO 1 to VCO 2.

Set desired amount of Cross Mod.

Use a dual Patch ( layer the same sound ).

This can give you a lot more sound possibilities than just using =
standard Saw, Square and Pulse waves.
