All about the Roland Jupiter-series

Hello, I'm new to the list. I just bought a Jupiter 8 and I've noticed
a narrow wide strip of open space with what looks to be screw holes on
each side of it. Would this be where the DCB would have been? Also the
lowest 'G' key is stuck (it got jammed during shipping, I suppose). Is
this a do-it-yourself repair or should I just take it in to the shop
and pay an outrageous amount?

The open strip could indeed be the place where the DCB would normally be
installed to. Yet, the earlier models have this strip as well, but they left
the factory without the standard DCB. On early models the DCB was an extra
option... But the hole might have been there already. I'm not sure if it
should be covered, but on my unit it seems that someone sometime tried to
cover the whole with some kind of small plate an a LOT of glue...

Be aware that the DCB connection is a must when MIDI-fying your JP8 with the
more simple kits. DCB upgrades are still available through Roland Benelux.

About the lowest G-key: If you trust yourself on taking the JP8 apart, it
could be quite a simple job. First thing you need to do is to find out why
the key is stuck; is it the spring, or is the key making contact with other
keys, or is it just filth that holds the key from working properly?

It might be a good idea to check and clean the whole keyboard while you're
at it.

If you don't trust yourself with a screwdriver, take your JP8 to someone who
knows how to cope with things like this. Yea, it may cost you a fair amount,
but ask yourself: 'Isn't my Jupiter worth it?'
