I've noticed that controlling filter cutoff remotely with the pc1600 or the remote programmer leads to unpleasant midi artifacts. Calling it zipper noise is being too kind. It's still a feature worth having, as I've been using a CV pedal to control filter cutoff and other parameters and it's much better than playing one handed. I noticed that you can rout the mod wheel to filter cutoff via the aftertouch/mod parameters. It seems like the range of modulations is not as great but the zipper noise is barely noticeable. This works well for the top voice but on layered patches the second voice's filter modulation is severaly delayed. Not a problem in pad type patches but for short fast sounds it's quite noticeable. I'm a little bit unclear how this works, as I don't have a manual. Isn't aftertouch a controller number? If so, which one. . . and can the two channels of the MKS80 be modulated independently using controller data rather than system exclusive data? I've been using the MKS80 more since I've begun layering patches. What has worked well for me is to have one patch with something like a triangle, or sine-sounding sub osc sound. The other patch might be a more traditional saw or pulse wave string or piano sound that I control via filter cutoff. Anybody have other suggestions? Lastly . . . compression really helps the MKS. It seems to add some midrange grit, and makes bass patches and rhythmic tracks much more engaging. The other thing I've tried doing is boosting mid-range frequencies and attenuating super low and high frequencies. That's all, Royce __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
