Have you played around with the bandpass filter? What about mixing
waveforms for each osc.? Try some mod routings for the VCA and
VCO. I'll try to put up some JP-6 patches later this week to
show off some of it's capabilities.

As far as sounding legendary, I've have to say that it's more of
a versatile workhorse than legendary sound. The JP-8, MiniMoog,
Prophet 5, SEM, etc have 'legendary' sounds to them. I think
of the JP-6 as a great sounding, versatile synth.

You don't really say what it is about the sound that you don't like. I've
had one for quite a while, so I can give you an idea of what I use
it for.

NOT BASS. For some reason it's pretty hard to get a really warm bassline
out of the thing. You can come pretty close if you use triangle waves,
but it just seems to lack oomph in that department.

My favorite sounds with the JP6 are using either the bandpass or hipass
filter. It can really cut through the mix. You can get great sounds
using the hard sync -- sync OSC1 to OSC2, set the OSC MIX to all OSC1,
and then turn up the LFO->Frequency modulation on OSC1. Then
experiment with different waveforms for OSC2.

The JP6 is great for having a 'cutting' sound -- it can stand out in
a busy mix. The envelopes are very fast, so when you use short envelopes
you can really get them to pop.

I have a opportunity to trade a pair of 1200's and a mixer for a Jupiter
6...
I think this is a fair trade, but I already have a bunch of synths... like a
pro one, mg-1, 106, pulse, fs1r, pulsar.... not exactly in the old school
analoges, but perhaps what I have, fits the ticket. You know, once you have
too much gear, your creativity gets lost in the manuals a bit.

I guess my question is. How does the Jupiter 6 sound? is it something worth
givin up turntables for? Someone I talked to , said that the Jupiter 6 eats
a jp-8000 for breakfast... Anyone has a JP-6 here? want to email me
privately to let me hear their opinions?

Thanks!!!

-Pete
