Invalid linearize curve - values not increasing

Invalid linearize curve - values not increasing

2008-04-28 by jcmanleyy

Great and promising new program for my alt photography palladium
printing. Question: I'm doing my first linearization curve. I tried the
L values from a scan and started as per instructions in the upper left
with the L value for the lightest patch (95%). I continued through the
21 steps ending with 4%. I entered each value as an absolute value, but
when I tried to save, I got the error message that because the values
were not increasing (well, I wasn't using the densinometer). So how do
I enter these Lab color values?
Thanks,
Jim

First of all: were the data you were putting actually steadily
increasing? If not, either your ink setup or your readings are not
correct. You should fix that first then. If you readings are steadily
increasing, you still may get that error message if the increments are
rather small. This happens on a regular basis with 51 step wedges. But
you're using the 21 step wedge, which is the way to go. So my
assumption would be that your ink setup/gray curve parameters are not
good enough in the first place. One should have a somewhat linear L
curve prior to the linearization. Linearization can't fix errors in the
ink setup/cray curve parameters. Tom Moore's user guide should be of
help here.
