Suddenly A Printing Problem: 2.5.1 on Mac

2007-04-08 by edrudolpho

Hi.... I've been printing fine all day with a 2400 in QTR 2.5.1 on a
Mac with OS 10.4.8. Printed some prints in the morning, then some
step wedges in the afternoon. Suddenly, however, I'm unable to print.
Sometimes the printer will send the paper all the way through without
printing on it; sometimes nothing happens. The Quad2400 status says
that it is "Waiting for device."

I've tried removing and reinstalling the Quad2400 printer. Restarting
both the printer and the computer.

The Epson driver does not work either.

I've printed a nozzle check to verify that the printer is actually
working.

Any ideas?

Ed

Thanks Alan. I tried restarting from my mirror backup drive and
printing worked from it. I ran rebuilt the directory structure,
repaired permissions, restarted from the original drive and printing
was working again. Thank goodness... :-)

Update. Re: Suddenly A Printing Problem: 2.5.1 on Mac

2007-04-09 by edrudolpho

Just in case someone finds themselves in similar situation, here's an
update on my recent printing problem with a 2400 printer on an Apple
PPC under OS 10.4.8 and 10.4.9.

Again today I found I wasn't able to print, either using QTR or the
Epson driver. The problem was that after the document was sent to the
print queue, printing never began. However, the printer is clearly
being seen by the computer and nozzle checks through the Epson Print
utility.

I tried changing cables which didn't help.

What seems to have remedied the situation (I hope) was to go to the
Apple Printer Setup Utility. There, the Printer Setup Utility, I
selected Reset Printing System, which seems to have removed all the
printers. Be forewarned, I lost all of my printer presets when I did
this, so if you have critical setups stored in your printer presets,
note what they are ahead of time so that you can reconstruct your
settings. After reinstalling the QTR printer and installing the Epson
driver (I actually upgraded to the latest driver) printer seems to
have returned to normal.
