Trying Quadtone RIP: troubleshooting why no image appears

Trying Quadtone RIP: troubleshooting why no image appears

2007-03-11 by snsokstan

I tried Quadtone RIP in the past but didn't continuing using it. I
just installed 2.5.0.1 and tried printing from Photoshop CS3 to an
Epson 2200. My system is a Pentium 4, WinXP.

I was printing this morning direct to Epson, and was getting that
typical bluish-green cast, so I decided to give QTR another try.

Quadtone prints, but no image shows up.

I tried a file I had just printed direct to Epson. It's a 16 bit TIFF
with color removed but still RGB. My print is a very neutral gray,
but there is no image. It just looks like one huge bar code--just
vertical gray stripes.

I tried the same file as 8 bit, grayscale, and used a different curve.
All I got was a complete, solid black.

In the QTRgui window, the image shows up normally in the little
preview window.

I didn't find a mention of this in the older messages in this group,
or in the troubleshooting area of the help files.

I think the "all black" is caused by a TIF compression mode that is not
supported.
When you Save the TIFF file use only the LZW compression not the ZIP or
Jpeg compression.

It sounds like a TIFF format that QTR does not support. Sounds like the RGB
might be interleaved. You can try saving the file and checking the settings.
