suddenly printing only 2/3 of print

suddenly printing only 2/3 of print

2006-12-03 by allan chen

all,
	I'm using a 1280, ut2, originally with qtr 2.4.1 then upgraded to
2.4.3.10 then to 2.4.3.15. Worked fine the last time I printed (on
2.4.1) about a month ago. Now, all of a sudden, with settings the same,
I'm only getting 2/3 of the print onto the paper. I turned off advanced
printing features, which caused problems on some other epson printers
I've had in the past. Any clues as to what else could be happening?

thanks,
allan

Allan,

I had this problem and some similar in my 1290 (=1280 in Europe)like
printing in some parts of the print very fine lines wider than the
image, all were solved whe conecting the printer to another computer (a
laptop)and turning again to the first compuer...

Allen -

I had this same problem on my Epson R1800. Probably worse - I could only get about 1/2 of a page, the other half solid black with horrible banding separating right and left side. I found out that when Photoshop saves a file in tiff, you can choose an option to either interleave the channels, or save them in 'per channel format'. While I don't really understand the difference -- photoshop says RGBRGBRGB vs RRRGGGBBB -- when I switched the save option to interleave the printing problem went away.

I hope that helps.

Hi - Michael had shared this with me also. I'm not sure that it was the
whole story. Tracing things back + taking into account other accounts
kindly offered the critical issues for me seem to have been:

1/ Turn the printer off and re-connect (this seems to have been critical
- I usually leave my printer on so that it runs an occassional auto-head
clean - I suffer fewer blockages this way)
2/ convert to 8 bit if the source RAW is in 16.

re Interleaving, I was using the Photoshop defaults, so I don't think this
is the issue. Whatever - QTR is now giving me the most neutral, subtly
graded B&W prints I've ever had, so I'm a happy bunny.

Many thanks to the community for being so generous with advice.

Best

Chris

I've been having a similar problem on my 1280 connected to a PC.

I've been trying to make curves for a new paper this week. I've been
printing consecutive 21-step test images on a single sheet of
letter-size (8.5"x11") paper (QTR settings: premium glossy photo
paper, 1440 super, uni-directional, ordered dither). Everything was
going fine until yesterday, when I couldn't print the test image below
about 3.5" from the top of the page.

I created a long, thin, vertical test image, about 1" wide by 9" long
and tried to print it using the same settings as for the curve
creation tests. The printer stopped printing about 3.5" down the
paper and ejected the paper.

If I change the paper size to 8"x10", the printer stops printing about
6.5" down the paper.

If I print the same image from Photoshop using the Epson driver, two
things happen:

1) I no longer have a choice of dpi settings under Print Quality – I
only have "Economy", "Normal",….. "Best Photo", etc.
2) Printing stops at about 7.125".

Something is obviously screwed up.

Except for an MIS Inks purge pattern that I auto-print nightly to keep
the nozzles clear, I have been using QTR exclusively for the last
couple of weeks (version 2.5.0.9 of the GUI).
I have not reinstalled the Epson driver or made any other changes to
the OS (Windows XP Pro).

So, I restarted Windows and turned the printer off and back on. Now
QTR prints as I expect it to, but the Epson driver from Photoshop
still does not give me access to dpi settings.

Any clues, anybody?

Terence Lowe.

The first think I'd do is install the driver all over again and make
sure you fully clean out all residues of the existing one.

I am brand new at this and having the same trouble on an EPSON 1280
running windows XP. I started with QTR version 2.4.3. I removed that
using Change and Remove programs and downloaded and installed 2.5.0.
I had the same problem. Then I used QTR cleanout to remove 2.5.0 and
reinstalled it and the updated GUI 2.5.0.9. Same problem. I restarted
the computer in between each installation.

The image should print at 10.5" x 7.2" on letter size paper. It
actually printed at 3.5" x 7.2", and was distorted and compressed.
The remainder of the page was solid black. The whole image printed,
but was compressed to exactly 1/3 the size it should have been.

Print size was set to letter. Units were inches, landscape, scale was
100%, and the image was to be centered.

I cannot think of anything else to try, but maybe someone more
experienced with this software can suggest something.

After all the re-installs changing the TIF Save As settings from per
channel to interleave seemed to work.
