QTR printing workflow on Mac

QTR printing workflow on Mac

2016-11-07 by stephan.bruehl@...

The user guide says that in Photoshop one should choose „color management by Photoshop“ and choose „QTR gray matte paper“ resp. „QTR gray photo paper“ as output profile.
This, however, is not possible, although the profiles are present. In the basic color settings of Photoshop I indeed can define these profiles as workspace profiles, but they cannot be chosen in the print dialogue (they just don’t appear in the selection table).

As printer profile I can only choose „QTR RGB photo/matte paper“ instead. Is this correct ??

Best, Stephan

Follow-on question to Stephan’s - instead of RGB gray matte, can you (or should you) use the paper profile supplied by the vendor - for example, profiles form Canson or Red River?

Thanks,

Norm

Photoshop no longer shows gray ICCs so RGBs are ok. But PS doesn't do CM correctly with gray printing anyway.
It's mainly an issue of matching screen and print. See if it's good enough for you.

Given that Stephan is on a Mac, I'm surprised that Roy didn't recommend using Print Tool (written by Roy as a companion program to QTR on a Mac). It allows you to use any profile you like, and unlike printing direct from PS to QTR, it gets the colour management right.

+1 to what Brian said. I use PrintTool for everything - QTR B&W prints with OEM inks, Color prints with OEM inks and the Epson driver, Cone K7 Piezography inks, PiezoDN digital negatives - it rocks.

Thanks for your comments. I just installed the test version of Print-Tool and it looks quite nice. Certainly I 'll pay for it in the next days.

Hi Stephan

Please pay for it! I'm using PrintTool for all my QTR-B&W printing, and for the price, it's an absolute on Mac!

Jacques
