gray photo gray matte printer profiles

2015-12-19 by walterbav@...

Using either lightroom or photoshop cc 2015 on an I mac 10.10 Yosemite. Have downloaded the QTR 2.7 I believe I have followed the instructions correctly but when I go to printer and select printer profile gray photo, gray matte and gray lab are not listed. The RGB photo, RGB matte and the RGB lab profiles are listed.

Thanks for any help

Walter

I’m having the same problem (see other post) with the gray profiles as well as some custom ones that I created with QTR-Create-ICC-RGB. Interesting enough, the 3880-EbvT profiles (which I downloaded from the net) work fine. I can print with the other QTR profiles (RGB-Matte, RGB-Photo) directly out of Photoshop with no problem.

Am still digging and will post when I figure it out.

Jeff,

PrintTool looks pretty interesting. However, If a profile is not appearing for other applications (like PhotoShop) will it appear for PrintTool?

Just wondering….

Re: [QuadtoneRIP] gray photo gray matte printer profiles

I guess its worth re-interating the color management issues on Mac.

1) Gray ICC profiles don't show up in Adobe products -- Lightroom or Photoshop
because Adobe has decided not to display them. The good news though is
that all the RGB ICC profiles work the same and show up as always.
If you are creating them use QTR-Create-ICC-RGB.
2) While you can use Photoshop to print, the color management is not strictly
correct -- you cannot disable CM, you cannot get exact results with CM and QTR.
(or other B&W driver like Epson ABW). Again the good news is that you can
still print and get high quality prints -- you just may need to edit the file to
compensate.
3) If you really want exact CM and create your own ICC profiles or QTR driver curves
the only exact method is to use Print-Tool. It's an extra product I wrote for this
as well as easier layout capabilities. It does No CM, and managed CM for
both Epson drivers and QTR driver both RGB and Gray.

Hope that helps.

Thanks to Roy for clearing thing up (once again and thanks for your patience!). Looks like PrintTool is the way to go - will be getting a copy shortly.

BTW; the problem with the RGB profiles not appearing looks like a permissions issue. When I opened the profiles up for both read and write, they started appearing. Won’t go into how to do that here because a person can really get themselves into a lot of problems playing on the command line….

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
