Quad 7900 Printing Module

Quad 7900 Printing Module

2014-08-05 by Wallace Kistler

I’m using QuadToneRIP GUI 2.7.0.0 with the Epson Stylus Pro 7900, and when I select the Quad7900 Printing Module, I get the following error when starting the curve creation tool (QTRgui window popup)

“Access violation at address 004058F7 in module ‘QTRgui.exe’. Read of address 00000004” (or Read of address 000003B8).

When starting with a different printing model (Quad3800) and opening a file, everything is ok. After changing back to the Quad7900 Printing Model there is a QTRgui error occurring.

The error is “Access violation at address 004058F7 in module QTRgui.exe’. Read of address 00000374 (or 0000040C).

Also, there is an I/O error 32 that occurs when trying to save a QuadTone Ink Description File (qidf) with the Quad7900 Printing Module selected.

Is this something anyone else has had problems with? It may be related to using the Quad7900 printing module.

Any help would be appreciated.

Regards,

hi Wallace,

I am having exactly the same problems with my QTRgui...
Could you finally work out the reason or a fix to your problem?

Weird that not more people have experienced this problem?

These things really drive one mad!

Kind regards

Rafael

By the way Wallace, my problem is only occurring with the Epson 4900 printer...Like you, if I select the 3880 printer, then everything goes ok.

Let me know if you could solve your problem!

Thanks in advance

The 10 ink printers are not supported by the QTRgui create curve module.
So the easiest thing is to pretend it's an 8 ink printer and create curves without
the orange and green inks. For the 4900 just use 4880 setup and then after
you have the .quad files just move them into the 4900 folder.

Printing to the 4900 does work though.

Dear Roy,

I take advantage first of all for thanking you for such a wonderful piece of software you have created. So far, I am really impressed with the results with the epson 3880 printer.

Concerning the 4900, I understand now the curve tool does not work. However, I am sorry about my ignorance, but I still do not understand everything you said...

So maybe you or anybody else here will be able to tell me if I am wrong:
For 10 ink printers, I can select from the QTRgui a printer "Name" which is the 4900, but I should select a "printing model" which is 4880. Then, QTRgui would allow me to open the curve tool, from there I should choose Quad4880 as printing model too, make the modifications and create a new ink descriptor file, and then save the resulting .qidf file inside of to the folder " Profile>4880-uc".

Then, In order to use that file to print from the 4990, am I right if I assume I should copy the .qidf file from the Profile>4880 folder to the Profile>4900? If yes, then for printing should I select the Quad4900 as printing model and then I would be able to choose the recently saved .qidf file from the curve setup menu? But that file is a .qidf file, not a .quad file? Why Ron spoke about the .quad files?

Another problem I see is that even if I can save the .qidf file into the folder Profile>4880-uc directly from the curve creator window, then if I go there from windows explorer to that very folder I cannot find the recently saved .qidf file... only those which came with the software? In fact, when I save the new file from the curve creator, the opposite also happens... only the newly saved .qidf files appear, not the ones which came canned. Why is all this happening?

As you can see, I seem to need some help ! Thanks in advance for your help,

Warm regards,

rafael
