I installed the QTR and the profiles for my printer using the USB connection. The QTR works only if I am connected via USB. I can not print over the network. Is there a way to solve this problem? I can print over the network without using QTR, ie... choosing the 9600 in the print dialog box instead of Quad 9600. Suggestions?

I use QTR over a network. The "trick" is to install QTR for the networked printer, not when connected via USB cable. To do this you need to find the network address for the printer. (QTR will want to know this.) On my Mac I do this by first installing the "regular" version of the printer over the network (i.e. using the Epson 4880 driver, in my case), and then looking at the resulting installation. ( On a Mac, go to Print & Scan / Epson StylusPro 4880 / Options & Supplies / Show Printer Webpage. Under Information � TCP/IP you can see the IP Address. It will be something like 192.168.2.28. Using ip numbers can be done. But a protocol called Bonjour is simpler. See the tutorial.pdf at the end for details. Thanks, Roy. The Bonjour method is much easier, and the one I use for everything else! It didn't work for me because I was running the QTR script *before* I had installed the Quad printer. Sheesh! For those of you listening in, the following *seems* to be the best way to install an Epson 4880 on a Mac for use with K7 inks (i.e. 7 black inks instead of colour): ********************** Go to SystemPreferences / Print-&-Scan / "+" (at bottom of box on the left) / Add Printer or Scanner Choose the EpsonStylusPro4880 that is a Bonjour printer (rather than Epson TCP/IP) Change the name to Quad4880-K7. Let OS X install the printer (with the new name). In Finder, go to the folder Applications/QuadToneRIP/Profiles/4880-K7/ Double Click on "Install4880-K7.command". This command script will do two things: 1) create profiles from the curve description files in that subdirectory, and 2) create ~/Library/Printers/Quad4880-K7.app Now "Quad4880-K7" will be an available printer choice, and the curves defined in the directory containing "Install4880-K7.command" will appear in the printer dialogue. *********************** IS THIS ACCURATE? I have a more complicated setup, and have not been able to make it work with QTR or the OEM driver, so it's not a QTR issue but I might as well throw it out here anyway... I have 3 LF Epsons connected to a PC, 2 through a router, one USB, all works fine from the PC. My main computers are Macs, and the PC is networked to them. I send files from the Mac to the PC to then open and print there with another RIP. WHen I try to find those printers here on the Mac, to also use QTR to them from the Mac, Bonjour does not see them. If I use "windows". I can select the PC and it does see those printers, I then select which software to use etc. Now they do show up on the list, and show as idle.. but nothing can print to them, neither the OEM driver or QTR, the Epson utilities don't see the printer either.. odd since the printer setup does seems to see it.. Hi Tyler, A couple quick questions: Are the printers "through a router" on the ethernet or USB on the router? I'm guessing the router isn't an Apple Airport. ?? Do you use Bonjour on the PC or the Epson TCP/IP connection? Do you have Bonjour enabled on the printer (thru the front panel)? Does printer setup on the Mac see it as a Bonjour printer? I guess that's more than a couple. Just wondering how much Bonjour is working or not. Roy PS. Thanks Myron spelling it out again. I'd add that when in Print&Scan adding the printer make sure the Print Using is the appropriate QTR driver. Yes, and using the EpsonNet utility on the PC, it shows as enabled for each ethernet connected printer. Downloaded Bonjour for Windows and set one print up on it on the PC, it still doesn't come up on the list under Bonjour. I tried Mac setup one of the ethernet printers, entering it's address in the IP section. That seemed to work, I set it up with the OEM driver. The Epson Utility opens as though it sees it, but I get a communication error trying to send it a nozzle check. I wonder if there are just too many devices between the Mac and those ethernet Epsons... router, PC, then router..

Does sound a bit complicated. If I understand correctly you've got 2 ethernet networks: 1 -- macs & pc 2 -- pc & printers. So for the macs to talk to the printers they'd have to go through the PC. I'm no expert on bonjour but I'd guess it doesn't do that. An idea: Do you need two networks? Is is just that you don't have enough ports? You need one full router to go to the internet, but sounds like the other one is basically just a switch/hub. How about connecting the switch/hub router to the first router and then between the two of them you have enough ports for all the other computers and printers come off one or the other routers. That setup just sort of evolved... all the computers had to be networked, from the internet modem... Then at some point I had to connect more printers to the PC and had the switch hanging around. this worked perfectly Roy. The somewhat finnicky TCP/IP ports still worked right off the bat on the PC, and the printers connected to the switcher immediately came up on the list in the Mac as bonjour printers, available to add. I've not yet printed through QTR to one, but will try that soon. Can I bonjour "add" the same printer twice, giving a different name, one with Epson software selected and one with QTR named as the tutorial instructs? The 7800 connected directly to the PC via USB still is not showing up via bonjour, but I'm not concerned about that printer yet.
