Re: QTRgui beta

2005-09-13 by David Meddings

Hi Stephen,

Some feedback on the beta. I downloaded about a week ago, not sure if
the current one (2.3.10.8) is somewhat newer.

In any event I am afraid to say on my system (XP, 2 gigs RAM, 2.6 GHz)
and Epson 2100 printer it does not yet seem bulletproof.

I had a few errors with printing. For memory, my workflow is edit in PS
CS2, resize in Qimage (with interpolation to 720 ppi) and Print to
File, print out of QTR.

On tiffs at both around the 210 MB size as well as 335 MB (different
output dimensions) I had assorted problems. These included the
thumbnail showing up in the pane but the paper simply feeding through
the printer without printing when the Print button was depressed. This
behaviour was followed by an 'Error writing to printer' message.
Printer panel seemed to show very slow spooling of the file.

Another error behaviour was a simple refusal to print, followed by
an 'I/O 32 error' (or something similar).

The above two errors, to the best of my memory, could happen
irrespective of whether I dragged and dropped the files or used Select
Image.

Howeve, despite the above, I could always get it to agree to print
eventually.

I'm not sure if that's very helpful to you as I know it's not a very
systematic account. Still, my impression is that the handling is still
a little buggy. Unlike previously where I was getting msgs about Tiff
tags (I still got that on one occasion), the main aberrant behaviour
now seems to be that an entire sheet is fed through the printer without
any actual printing being done, followed by a paper feed error on the
printer and an error message on the screen indicating a problem writing
the file to the printer.

Best wishes,

Dave Meddings
