Solved! Someone with the same problem but using the OEM driver discover it's the platen gap setting. I've never seen this behavior before, but going through the options in StudioPrint revealed a wide variety of K channel moire, and one setting that worked well. Hopefully this will not be a problem in QTR if we get the x900s up and going.
