Ink Density Calibration with UT14 ink set

2009-07-01 by dagor52

Hi,

I'm in need of a little clarification concerning Quadtone RIPs " Ink
Density Calibration"

I'm printing with a Epson 1400 and using the MIS UT14 ink set. Please
bear with me I have a few beginner questions.

1. After I have printed out the "Ink Calibration Test Page" the
instructions are to look for the patch in which there is an apparent
100% coverage or slightly less...we do this for Ink position #1
(Black)...correct?

2. Assuming my first assumption was right I then pick for example the
patch adjacent to 85 as being my 100% point and then slide the Ink
Adjustment slider to 85 and make my 2nd test print.

3. The next step is a process of relative ink comparisons, Comparing Ink
#1 (Black ink) with each of the gray inks. To be clear I mean….Ink#1
with Ink#2, then Ink#1 with ink #3 and so on though all the remaining
gray inks…I am correct here?

4. We are also instructed to compare the 100% patch for the light black
ink with the #1 ink. Are we literally looking for the light patch where
we see or measure 100% coverage or are we selecting the patch adjacent
to the number 100 on the light black sample?

I'll leave it that for now, I don't want to wear out my welcome on my
very first posting.

I would appreciate any help with these basic questions, I promise there
are many more,

Many thanks, Seth
