RE: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: Vista 64 or XP pro 64 version of QTR?

Xp64 is the least compatible version of the available 64 bit OS.

It is actually a port of Windows 2003 Server SP1 64 Bit melded with some of
the UI stuff from Windows XP.

And it has very real issues with drivers that don't really manifest
themselves with other applications; this is actually due to the Requirement
that all user mode code not run in Ring 0 (similar to Vista and Longhorn)
which was not the case with XP. This makes some software (particularly
drivers) impossible to support with a re-write. The default out of box
behaviors to not allow unsigned drivers and some of the more stringent
requirements made it not very compatible with a number of applications (such
as Anti-Virus, software and licensing) which in turns limits the items that
will work well. These by design behaviors made initial compatibility not
that great and driver support didn't really ever catch up as the OS did sell
well enough to justify resources so most companies focused on Vista and are
now setup for Windows 7.

To repeat my original statement, Vista 64 and Windows 7 are better choices
particularly if you are going to run 64 Bit right now.

Why is XPx64 not compatible with anything. I use both XP64 and Vista64 with
no problems.

Some drivers are not available for XP64 but that's allbut other than that it
is fully 32 and 64bit compatible. It doesn't run 16bit software from Win95
or 98 but who would want to. If you need that then go XP32.

XP 64 is a new generation design to make use large size Ram Memory and take
advantage of multi processors. Great for photographic work. That is what all
graphic people have been wanting for years. Now you say it's not compatible.
