Re: BO with QTR

Hi Tony,

I have an Epson 2200, that I have been using with the Ultrachrome
inkset, and I believe the 2100 is the same machine only that it's
used in the UK or Europe? Anyway, from what I understand, if
you're using the Ultrachrome inkset, or an equivalent one, the
warm profiles in QTR, generally only use the black & light black
inks. Personally, this option is a little too warm for me, and
therefore I tend to blend it to some degree with the cool profile.
But, if printing with only the black inks with QTR is what you're
after, and you're using a paper/ink combination that is already
profiled, then using one of the warm profiles might be the option
you're after. Just check the ink descriptor file to see if it uses
any of the other inks. If it does you could pretty easily modify the
profile and create one suited to your liking, that only used the black
inks.

Otherwise, while I haven't printed strictly black only (in the sense
of using only one ink) on my 2200, I also have an Epson 1280 with
the the Piezotone inkset that I have used to produce postcards and
greeting cards using a BO workflow in order to save on ink costs.
The results are actually rather beautiful in their own right. And,
I've done so by using QTR to print BO using only the Piezotone
Portfolio Black by creating my own custom curve. I'm sure you
could do the same with the 2100, if you really wanted to.

Hope that helps,

Eric
