Re: Curve for Silver Rag/Epson 9600/UC inks?

2007-04-12 by john dean

I was never able to achieve good black and white results with any
glossy papers from my 9600 and QTR. The color was always too brownish
and the bronzing was really bad. And, I really wanted it to work this
way out of qtr and greyscale.

What I was able to do is use an RGB workflow without qtr and linearize
using Print Fix Pro with the extened grey profiling process. It
measures 720 color tones and then an additonal 240 "extended grey"
patches to neutralize all the values. The final result was pretty nice,
great dmax, and much more neutral and smooth compared to any greyscale
workflow with the Epson K2 Ultrachromes and glossy media (K3 is a
Totally different story and glossy papers function much much better all
around). Even with the rgb process I still have to spray the prints
with Premier Art spray to eliminate the remnants of gloss differential
and bronzing of the shadows. There is a tiny bit of metamerism with
using all the color inks too but with my profile it is very minimal.

So, no, no good curve for that paper with qtr and the 9600.

John
