2100 Paper Size and Handling Issues

2005-05-05 by andrew

I've been using QuadTone for a while now. I'm running OS 10.3.9.
Recently, I updated the installation to 2.2. I'd always used the 2100
connected as a Windows printer, but the new installation demanded that
it be there as a USB printer. I connected it directly to the Mac but I
had a lot of hassles getting the installation to see the printer. It
kept showing up under USB printers but it was not able to be selected
and had a message saying "driver not installed". I installed the Epson
driver but that of course didn't work. What finally did the trick was
reinstalling the CUPS 4.2.7 drivers, which were somehow absent, from
the OS 10.3 disks. Finally, it worked. But not perfectly. I have 2
main issues:

Issue 1. The handy custom centred paper sizes have disappeared from
the print dialog. However, the default paper sizes now have 3.2mm
borders and are centred. This would OK except for the fact that the
2100 has a bottom/right margin of ~14mm.

Issue 2. Related to that, the printer is physically losing grip on the
paper (Hahnemuhle Photo Rag) for the last few mm of what should be
printable area, thus ruining the print. I printed an image on A5
landscape (210mm x 148mm), sized to 175mm wide, which left 17.5mm
either end. It still happened. I then printed a larger image from a
Windows machine using the Epson driver and all was fine.

Could the the native Epson drivers be inteferring with the CUPS /
QuadTone installation? Any and all thoughts or help will be gratefully
received.
