Hi Bob,

Ordinarily, softproofing maps the blacks to the black of the screen which is usually a
bit dark than a black on matte paper.  When you set up the softproof there is a Simulate
Ink Black that lightens the soft proof a bit.  You may find this more to your liking but
I think it boils down to the difference between a screen and paper.
