The Epson driver, at least with some of the desktop units, uses a different and quite effective way of hiding the paper transport problems that occur there and cause microbanding where both of the rollers are not engaged.
I've also been able to get QTR to do a better job of hiding the microbanding at the ends by having more ink overlaps in the profile, thus more inks firing to hide the problems.

Did not Roy's recent message indicate that micro-banding is caused by control from the Epson driver?
With the R3000 I can print to within 1/4" of the top and bottom of the page, with no banding. When I print the same file with QTR I have to set the top and bottom to about .75" or I get banding in this area.
