The only other thing I can think of is to try running Install3880 command as a “SuperUser” (sudo -s in the Terminal). I’m really klutzy at that level, but it should be possible, and it would guarantee the ability to write the printer file in the proper
place.

Are you certain that the /private/etc/cups/ppd subdirectory privileges look correct? When I look at the info for that subdirectory (Cmd-i), System is given Read&Write privilege, and “_lp” and “everyone” are given Read privilege.
