Model 13 question

Model 13 question

2006-09-14 by rafe127

Hi all,

I just got my Dual Timbral gates the other day and I am getting a
couple of odd behaviors. For one thing, the two gates seem to give
different results. When I move the same input from one T-Gate to
another and also the exact same VC I get a very different sound from
one gate. The lower gate adds some harmonics and sounds a bit
overdriven.

Also, sometimes the 2nd (lower) gate just doesn't respond to VC.
Sometimes it gets better if I move the offset pot off of the lowest
position and then back to the lowest position, and sometimes it just
fixes itself for a minute after not being touched but then goes back
to not working.

I'm going to pull it out and look for shorts in a minute.

Any help appreciated.

Rafael,

Sounds like one of those Cliff Jacks are screwed up. There is a way
to fix these, pleae contact me at my ear0gorup email adress and I ill
go into it.

As to why it happened, guys...i have no clue. I am told continually
by Cliff that the engineering problems associated with their jacks is
well behind them, yet I still see (and receive) jacks which are
intermittant, Usually we catch these. Sounds like someties we don't.
If you are unable to repair this by the fix I will dicuss with you,
feel free t send it back to me directly and I'll get it replaced for
you and out the same day.

As far as the othe problem, not quite sure what you're experiencing.
What i can tell yo uis no two vactrols are the same. It's the nature
of the beast, but also the one compnents which is behind the sound of
the M13. Plese give me a little more information of what you are
speaking of.

I was employed for over 12 years as a quality asurance manager at a
bunch of huge companies. Pertec, Fairchild, Tandon, Western Digital.
Because of that experience, I can assure you that we test everything
before it goes out. I go so far as to do a 24 hour burn in on all new
producs to weed out any potential design issues before the mass goes
to the marketplace. Once I see a given circuit is stable, we stop he
burn in process abd I then begin shipping, but never before all are
tested. All inputs by themselves, then all inputs at once to tst for
overdrive issues.

Please give e a little bit more info on your specifics however. I'll
be hapy to address them.
