2009-01-01 by (i think you can figure that out)

Wednesday night, instead of my usual Eve's activity of overpaying for
restaurant meal and having a huge blowout with my girlfriend because I dare mention we're paying $90 a plate for a crappy meal in a tent set up in the parking lot of the restaurant I thought we were dining in, instead I stayed in and installed the new table for the synth. I've uploaded three pictures of the details in the folder mentioned in the post's title.

The table is a heavily modified Ikea Jerker computer table which
before it was lifted from their product line was one of the best and
certain best values for a computer table, offering full modularity as
far as what's hung off of it, t's hight, it's complexity, etc. It's actually not an original design, it's concept came from a much more expensive european system (whose name escapes me right now).

Anyway, Ikea stopped making these things and they are highly prized -
I've been trying to get one from Craigslist for a few weeks and they
usually go in minutes. Last week I was lucky, paid nary a penny for
the thing ($45 with two of the side brackets that I've seen on the bay
for $100 ea) and upon leaving their home, looked for the closest
dumpster and threw the tabletop, shelf and lower bracket in the trash!

All I wanted was the two main support beams, the railing that held the
tabletop and the side brackets. I cut a piece of 3/4" Burch veneer ply
to the size I needed (30 x 30 inch), routing the edges round and
slapped three coats of clear polyurethane stain on it with light
sanding in between. I then got two pieces of hardwood cut to
30 inches and used one each for the upper and lower support beams. I then cut two additonal identical pieces at 8 x 18 to spport two two side wings, and countersunk four holes in each so that they were securely fastened to the metal frames of the side brackets.

The whole process, sans the drying time for the three coats of stain
took about two hours and it was kinda fun.

I used to support my sidewings by two On-Stage Mix-400 stands:

which on paper was the coolest thing, but once I got them they were
terribly annoying, never holding the cases sturdy and taking a huge
amount of floor space for their (what seemed like 500) legs.

Now I've gained tons of floor space, the stand is four times as
secure, it matches my main editing stand and looks kinda pro. The Brch ended up costing me an additional $50, but well worth it.

If this seems like a neat idea and you can't find the Jerker table, if
you've got biceps of the Gods you cam make something much much cooler
yourself using cold water pipe and fittings. Go here:
