computer generated CV

2008-07-30 by criticalmonkey

been pondering the fact that having control voltage generated from computer would be
very cool
would be a very cool module - say firewire input from a computer with say 8 Digital to
analog converters that can handle the required voltage standards - software driver so it is
seen as an audio interface with 8 outputs - rather then some odd device type that would
be hard to access from a daw or such

would be incredibly easy to create a series of plug ins/apps that could go where no lfo/cv
controller has gone before - max/msp pluggo comes to mind

i'm in process of testing the da's i have - but i know i'll be beyond their design intentions
so i don't expect much - if anybody knows of an easily hackable cheap mac compatible DA
let me know -

kinda seems like what Buchla has pointed out in the 200e line
and it would make live performing so much easier

btw - i wouldn't expect the same as the analog counter parts - let analog do what it does
well and let digital do what it does

thoughts?

Would a midi to CV converter suffice?

But I would love to see a dedicated device for this sort of thing,
with a full 5volts CV. It would be awesome if it was precise enough
to get accurate frequency controls too. I hear that the RME fireface
has better signals, but the MOTU works ok...good enough for cheap free
 LFOs.

there's a DIY option, see:
