vca mixer

I have a euro system ( with more Plan Bs on the way :-) ) I am going
to buy the headphone module, also looking at the Model 33 or 9...To my
thinking they both perform the same basic function ie attenuation/
mixing. I understand the 33 has the voltage control attenuation but
isnt it really all i need to mix say 3 sounds to then go out to the
M40 headphone ?

ie 3 sounds into Model 33 to headphones

or

3 sounds into model 9 to headphones

Yeah, that's a totally valid application. The triple VCA has a mix
out, in that application it is a three input voltage controlled mixer.

Concerning the Triple VCA, I was wondering whether the knobs offset the
CV inputs or rather attenuate them. Both functions are useful...

The model 9 would actually be quite handy in conjunction with the
headphone amp. eg: You could input 2 stereo pairs to the m9 and route
them accordingly to the M9 A ("Left") and B ("Right") outputs then on
to the two headphone amp inputs (ensuring that you operate the
headphone amp in stereo mode). Or, you could input up to 5 mono
sources to the M9 and take the output from the M9's A+B socket and
send that to the headphone amp (running the amp in mono mode).

Regards,
Adam
