Model 30: One output v. multiple outputs
2008-05-07 by (i think you can figure that out)
Regarding these original comments made by Carlos, Chris and Norman: The issue that Chris eluded to is valid. The cost of the additional converters had to be justified by their utility. While three of the constituent component are Voltage Controlled Oscillators, they like their companion VCAs are just sub components of a larger design and while it's conceivable that any additional outputs and inputs could be construed into a useful patch, they do not substantiate nor augment the M30's basic function, that being an easily programmed, complex sound generator. These additional converters would merely serve to increase the panel cost and time to complete an extraneous benefit. If a car could make coffee it would be a benfit, but it wouldn't make it better transportation? You also have to look into the other side of the coin. Given the M30's unique benefit stated above, if you were using them instead as three independent VCOs, all doing their own thing, each coming out of their own output, it would create a management issue if you were to switch on the fly to another patch which required some of the VCOs to instead be used as modulators because they would still be routed to the outside world as independent voices. With three outputs, this is a problem. With one output these types of management issues are addressed...it's not a problem. - P
