The delay of the Model 18 was one of my most brilliant screw-ups, as
it seems that after posting the details on the EAR site what, over a year ago...two other Eurorack synth providers have either released,or announced products which are remarkably similar. Benefit of the doubt I'll say it's an odd coincidence, but it's my own fault!

We've got a few things ahead of this one, but I am palnning on doing t
still - again, all of the modules currently on the site which are not
yet released (and some which no-one knows about quite yet) will be
released by the end of this year.

THe M18 will probably be the bigger one picvtured in the photo section
of this blog -- not the smaller one shown on the EAR site.

Re: model 18 - mixer

The new front panel seems to include all of the functions that were in
the 2 proposed expander modules? Good move, if so. I hope it's going
to be flat-backed, like the new type VCO.

However, there is a handy thing that could be added to this as an
expander - an effect send add-on - four knobs, one for each channel,
and an output at the top maybe it could be jumpered as post fade or
pre fade. I don't think anybody produces a modular output mixer with
an effect send, the serge one certainly doesn't include one. It would
be really useful especially as there's a digital delay module
forthcoming. Maybe the expander could have a "through" socket on it,
so several of them could be chained off of one output mixer.

On the subject of mixing, a mixer for in-patch mixing rather than
output mixing would obviously be a cool future module. Either a basic
simple 5 into one mixer, maybe splittable into a 3-1 and a 2-1, or
better still an audio-oriented take on the "Dual Voltage Processor",
maybe with a fourth input per side replacing the offset control, the
outputs simplified a little - left out, mix out, right out - and
straight level LED meters instead of the dual-colo(u)r +/- voltage
leds. that would rock, actually.

Curious to know more about the proposed multiple module too.

Peter if your talking about the Cwejman unit as one of the mixers that
popped up it's too expensive for what it does and like most of his
modules there is a lack of CV input attenuators which I find
incomprehensible considering they cost so much. Especially a panner
which is useless without a way to cut the CV down for subtle moves.

The Doepfer unit seems neat but the EQ is lame. I agree with Norman
that sends would be good.

Unfortunately it's not going to be one of the those panel behind ones.
That's really limiting with Cliff jacks and I did it on the VCO only
because the board width worked out perfectly and it's such a
time-tested circuit. They hardly ever come into test with a problem
and if there is, I know exactly what to repair for almost anything.
The reason I'm mentioning this is you need to create all these strip
boards for modules with parallel boards and cliff jacks and once
they're mounted to the main board, it makes it real hard to get to the
board for repair. If you guys have noticed, all of my stuff comes
apart easily - I always consider service repair when laying something
out. The sends are a very good idea though.

There will also be a stereo mixer for system use. No VC pan or level
though, just manual with four in, one out and ganged input so you can
stack them, which I can't believe none of the Eurorack guys have done
yet, either.

Dario - I agree with you on the lack of Cwejman CV attenuators. I
thought at first all of his modules had output level pots (butthey
don't) which would at least give you the same basic thing although it
would effect everything connected to the chain not just the one CV you
want lowered. There is a a lot of possibilities between 1 and 2 on an
attenuator pot!

hallo

thanks for information as other said it before
there is no really mixer on the market
\i stiol use doepfer Pan module
which could be okay if it would be multiple by 4

anyway, big one seem to be fine
but it also means it takes much more space
not so convinient in live context

in your prototype vc for each pan spot is very good
mute / +6 switch also very good

I really liked version you showed on NAMM
very useful and smal

I do not really need headphones sections
but I can imagine others needs

thanks a lot

best
robert

Funny you mention the size a prob for live - it's because of that
it's as large as it is! I understand what you're getting at - wide is
bad in small rigs (one of the rubs with Eurorack - it's so small in
order to get something fully featured it gets big in a hurry), but
this is why I have the monitor switch on each channel, so you can
preview a sound through the headphones without it coming out the
mains. It was Gary Chang who suggested I do that and it's a good one.

funny or not, syths can be extremmly beatuful sruuf a=on stage
]and painful in te same time
size in rack matters, of course you the boss and we got
what you produce, yes this headphone preview is of course great
anyway I wait for this I plane anouther case for my stage apperances
so I save some space for this

I could not believe that it cost over 700 euro
