CalArts Analog Synthesis symposuim: January 14-25th

2008-01-12 by (i think you can figure that out)

For those of you who may attending CalArts (currently there are a few
individuals on this list in the student body), I am teaching an Plan B
Analog Synthesis class in B-305 during the term 2 interim session.

Schedule as follows:

Week 1: M/W/F 4:00–6:00
Week 2: TH/F 4:00–6:00

Credit Hours: 15

Curriculum will include a detailed overview on the operation of
CalArts' new Plan B system which I will be delivering permanently on
Monday, as well as in-depth instruction on the principles and
practices of additive and subtractive analog synthesis which will
include both theory and analysis of various electronic works
(Britney's new CD excluded).

Please note that Morton Subotnick will be returning to CalArts during
the interim to teach two multi-session classes one is Creating with
New Media, and another entitled 'What Music really Is" which is also
in B-305 and precedes my classes the first week. As well, Barry
Schrader will be teaching an electro-acoustic flavored single session
class which runs after mine next Friday.

As a bonus and per my initial proposal to CalArts, individuals who
complete this class will earn a 10% discount on Plan B modules
purchased through Analogue Haven in Pomona, Ca. Discount is limited
to two racks (84 HP x 2). You will be given a certificate of
completion which needs to be presented to AH along with a current
CalArts ID to earn this discount. While alumi *may* be able to attend
the classes (please contact the CalArts Music School to verify this as
I'm not positive), unfortunately only those currently enrolled at the
school are eligible for this discount. This cert is non-transferable
and expires at the beginning of the 2008 Fall session. Certs have
been made available to assure you finish the course (thus learning the
proper operation and care of the synth) and to assist if you wish to
pursue analog synthesis in your own studio.

The CalArts Plan B system consists of:

Model 15 x 3
Model 10 x 3
Model 13 x 2
Model 9
Model 11
Model 12
Model 14
Model 24
Model 25
Model 26
Model 28
Dual Panner (custom module)
8 x 4 sequencer (custom module)
Mult panel, which may be sub'd for either a Model 17 or Model 27 as
they become available.

The system is housed in a very attractive three row sloped-front
custom case, very similar to my main cabinet shown in the link below,
yet with a textured water-base black lacquer finish and standing only
12 1/2 inches tall by 22 inches wide by 17 inches deep and weighing
about 14 tons (not really, but I put a hefty PSU in there).
