I don't think listing your gear matters too much to the typical listener. However, it's a great way to brag to your peers! (Who will either drop their jaws in amazement or throw their arms up in disgust...) ;-) There does seem to be a direct relationship between the gear you list/display and the expectation of quantity/quality of material you produce...
