Hi Jon, No disrespect intended, oxymoron is just a fun word to say and I don't get to use it that often! ;) When I think of prog I think of 15 minute epics... when I think of mainstream pop i think of cookie cutter talent and huge markets owned by infinity broadcasting. The two genres just in general, in my mind, mix like water and oil because long songs that are interesting to listen to don't sit well with program directors who must play lots of commercials. It's harder to "dumb down" your audience with music in 15/8 and that is not all 120bpm. Oh, better not get me started. i DO see your point. funny, one of my current bandmates used to be in a band that marketed themselves as "progressive pop for the 90's!". -jim/m400#680 On 6/1/03 10:19 PM, JS wrote: > > >"Prog flavored mainstream pop" > >I must admit, I'm surprised at the reaction that phrase has generated - >perhaps I could best elucidate with a brief list of examples upon which I >could easily expand, as I'm sure you all would as well: > >Asia >Styx >Foreigner >Journey >Giuffria >Bad English >Queensryche >Boston >Electric Light Orchestra >U2 > >...and the list goes on. > >Hope that clarifies. > >Jon E Salley >jonesalley@... >M400 #886 >
