1964 Marcos for sale

2002-04-09 by mcaqmd

Hi all,

On Hemmings website www.hmn.com there is a 1964 Marcos for sale.
Says it's 4 wheel independent suspension so must be a De Dion rear
end. Looks like dual Strombergs on the Volvo 1800 engine. For sale
by a dealer. Price $19k. Pics look nice.

Anybody feeling rich??????

Hi folks,

I just went back and checked the ad. Recognized the dealer name and
damn, it's only 3 hours away in my old hometown of Pleasanton, CA.
Used to hang out at the place. Guess my weekend plans are set!! If
anyone has specific questions about the car, catch me before Saturday.

And yes..........it was a really slow day at work!!!! Lots of time
to surf.

Hi Don,
Be sure to get the chassis number for the registry and any other information about the owner (assuming it is on consignment) or previous owner. I wonder if this is the same car that Steve Frey brought to our attention about a year ago. That car was in the Livermore/Pleasanton area and was a early model car that was supposedly "mint" and with low miles.

Re: 1964 Marcos for sale(update)

2002-04-10 by mcaqmd

I talked to the dealer late yesterday afternoon and he said the car
is in "transit", which turns out to mean that the owner is sort of a
recluse and doesn't want the car displayed in the dealer's showroom.
Only private showings if there is any interest.

Certainly sounds like the "Livermore" car we've heard about. If
there is any interest I can set up an appointment to see it but for
right now I'll stay home.

RE: [MarcosManiacs] Re: 1964 Marcos for sale(close to me)

2002-04-11 by Dave McGill

Hi Jeff,
I'm new to the Marcos Maniacs, but no so new to the Marcos, having owned mine a 1967 1600 wooden chassis since 1981. That's 21 years ago!!!! Where does time go?
This 1800 is an interesting and desirable car being an 1800, the pictures are not that detailed, but from what I can tell from the rear wheel arch's this could be a very early car, later models including 1500 and 1600 all have small wheel arch's. The very early 1800 did not.
Unfortunately, there appears to be a few thing wrong. The bonnet, as we call it here in the UK, is not original.
The 1800 should have a short bonnet, this is the long bonnet from the later 3.0 cars less the power bulge. But does appear to have the correct shorter head light covers with the result that the covers don't appear to be fitted correctly. There is something also strange about the front bumbers, but this might just be the effect of the longer bonnet.
But then with Marcos's what's original anyway.....It's still a nice looking car, and if it were in the UK I'd like it.

Hi Dave,
Glad to have you with us!!!
I assume you are commenting here on the car I have in the "Mystery
Marcos Restoration" section on my site?
These are great observations that I certainly wouldn't have picked up
on.
Don passed me those pictures a while back, and unfortunately, neither of
us knows much about that car. But, I thought they were well worth
putting on the site and hope someone that knows, or even owns the car,
may someday come forward.

Best regards,

Jeff,

I think Dave is talking about the one for sale in CA. In my previous
post today I asked Dave to take a look at the "Mystery" one.

After looking closer at the one for sale, you can definately see that
the headlamp covers fall short of covering the indentation molded for
the headlamps.

RE: [MarcosManiacs] Re: 1964 Marcos for sale(close to me)

Woah!!!! OK, I just got around to looking at this car and I see what
Dave means about the hood.
It says that car appraised for $24,000.00!!!! Wonder how true that is,
or if that is just sales hype.

Don, I think it might be worth it to try and find out the chassis number
for the registry and maybe some more details on the history of the car.
