Dash & Run
2002-01-15 by Jack Myers
Hello Dano
If I am correct the chassis plate does not indicate
the running gear used, unlike modern plates.
How ever the engine No stamped on the near side of
the engine above and between the Petrol pump and the distributor,
would be recorded in the original Log book. If the
car was first registered in England then it should be traceable through the Tax
office in Swansea, Wales. With regard to the gear box these were standard Volvo
M41boxes they do have ID plates but I fear they are not recorded. Early 1800s
were fitted with De-dion rear axles, and later models with Ford Cortina
GTs.
How ever some were also converted after they left
the factory. A give away for this is, the hole where the differential
sits
will have bolt holes in pairs set opposite each
other at either side of the diff'.(in the wood)
The Dash was originally painted with Grey Hamerite,
the centre part as well as the left and right side.
On mine I sprayed the Glove compartment and the
speedo housing the same colour as the car (Vauxhall Haze blue),
but the centre console I veneered in American
Mahogany.
I have found Rimmers prices not too bad, so I just
wonder if they have a different price book for over seas.
Regards Jac.
