I'm still looking for a possible ground issue. Joe Cubitt says there is a ground post behind the dash near the wiper motor. When I remove the top of the dash, I don't see anything that resembles a wiper motor or a ground post. What do I need to dismantle to get to this grounding post?

David,This is a tad radical, but on all the Marcos cars that I have worked on, I have removed the thin plywood dash top to gain access to the workings below,The removal is simple, however you will need to use that piece to as a pattern to cut a new panel. Then, I attach the new top with #6 x 1/2" screws for easy removal the next time I need to have access to all that wiring, heater core, wiper motor and drive tubes..As I remember, there are a bundle of ground wires with ring terminal that have a bolt and nut securing them, but not fastened to the chassis at that point.An other point you might want to check would be the connections in the map light at the top of the center panel between the headrests.Do your power windows work well?

The right side power window goes down but sometimes doesn’t want to come up. When I reseat the wiring to the switch it works fine until I disrupt the wires again. I was playing around with the wires to the radio and at one time I had everything working fine. Then I tried to put everything back and went back to the same issue with the headlights I had before. I suspect it is related, but only one since I’ve had the car (about 6 weeks) has the red ignition light ever come on when I turned the key on and that was when the headlights were working as they should. The map light has always worked when either door is opened.

Intermittent operation of the electric motors for the windows is usually due to the wires that are inside the door check strap eventually fracturing through age and becoming brittle.
When the Marcos was originally built they used extra flexible cable. However Marcos Heritage told me it has been obsolete for many years.
The modern standard cable they fitted when they rebuilt my car in 2006 failed in only 2 years.
In 2008 I found that Maplin in the UK were able to supply 32 Amp Silicone Extra Flexible cable.
It was only available in Black and cost £5 per metre plus VAT so that is what got put in my car to replace the modern wires that failed.
I have been back to Maplin and they no longer list it on their website and people in their shops have never even heard of the cable. The Maplin stock Number was BJ41 but that does not seem to mean anything in their system the last time I looked.
I have not been able to find from where Maplin sourced this cable but clearly someone is / was making it.
None of the UK automotive electrical cable suppliers seem to list extra flexible wire.
It may be worth searching for extra flexible silicone cable but ensure that is has a high enough Amperage.

Dave,I would recommend the installation of relays for the windows.If you would check the voltage at the supply wires at the connection for the window motors you will probably find there is considerable drop in voltage. The motors do not work well at anything below 12.1 volts. I have fought this problem for 40 year before I installed the 4 relays.

Dave,Check the wire (brown/yellow) at the red indicating light, at the voltage regulator and alternator. Also be sure that the light has the ground wire making good contact.

One thing that you should look for is the wire, that the previous post mentioned, in through the check strap. The factory braided the three wires together and the bulk of the wire will work against each other causing failure. If they are braided, pull the wire out and replace them with new wire, but lay them side by side and tape them together, flat with a double round of tape at the bending point then reinstall. Be sure that the grounding point on the plate at the bottom attach to the door is sanded clean and apply some dielectric grease to that point. Use a spit lock washes, not a star washer to assure a good connection.

If you want a very flexable wire, visit your local car radio supplier / hifi dealer , they have a heavy duty cable with very thin multiple strands as it is used to connect high power speakers, supposed to be better for super quality sound. (something to do with "surface acoustic waves"?)
