Door window frame fits?

Door window frame fits?

2015-09-22 by hide809rig169@...

Still trying to make 8001 into a car. Door fit is finally good. The door window frames are aluminum. Question; How does the back of the window frame attach to the top of the door? And the front of the door? There appears to be no room for window frame bracket between the door and the jamb at the rear of the door. Both doors fit differently. Concentrating on the left door today. The door check strap (limiter). How does it attach to the door? I have a hook/bracket that fits inside the car. There is hole for the strap through the kick panel. How does that strap attach to the door? The hole in the door is there. Does the limiter/strap attach to the door hinge bracket inside the car? Thanks for the help, Steve V. Marcos in Arizona

Steve,I will send you some pictures this weekend to show you how the check strap is attached and the window frame attaches to the door.I have your bumpers ready to paint, but have been working full time in Sarasota and haven't had any time to be in the shop. Friday should be my last day at work if they do not find something else that has a rush on it.Do you have the check straps? You will need 4 each 10-32 x 1 1/2" round head phillips machine screws, nuts washers and lock washers for each door strap to attach straps. Also, you should have a metal plate with 4 3/16 holes drilled in strategic locations. There should be a slot (about 1.25 x 1/2") in the door forward face in line with the metal bracket mounted on the face of the vertical forward surface that hides the hinge on the body. It should have 4 3/16 holes that match the metal plate. If you do not have these, I can send you a pattern or cut you a pair of plates.

Larry, thanks for the reply. Don't need the bumpers painted. I will no doubt have to add material to have them match the contour of the body. Information on how they are mounted on the body would help. Became serious and fed up this afternoon. Got a grinder out and started clearancing the body around the window frames. I had fiberglassed inside the car around the roof area/body window frames some time ago, so had material. Left side window frame, to body fit is getting close. Clearance to body mounted striker is close. Cut the door window bracket (rear) Marcos installed, as it contacted the striker when the door was closed. Another problem showed up today. The door latch inside levers and pulls on the latch it's self contact the rear window frame run. Started bending the levers and pulls for fit. Crossing my fingers and toes there is clearance after bending. Where to get the drip molding around the window frames? Is there a source in the USA? Thank you for the response. I cannot believe the poor quality on the car. I should be changing some of this for better. How could anyone live with the poor fits on the doors? Steve V. Marcos in Arizona

Steve,I just received a set of rain gutters from Rory, for another car. The complete set (4 pieces) is about 28.00 pounds. They are strait (without bends) so the package isn't very big. I have 3 pieces here, but you could order the 4th piece. I have not found a supplier in the states in all the years I have been working on these things.Would it help if I sent you a pattern for the roof shape around the windows? They are different from left to right side.
Regards,
Larry

Steve,
I just received a set of rain gutters from Rory, for another car. The complete set (4 pieces) is about 28.00 pounds.
They are strait (without bends) so the package isn't very big. I have 3 pieces here, but you could order the 4th piece. I have not found a supplier in the states in all the years I have been working on these things.
Would it help if I sent you a pattern for the roof shape around the windows? They are different from left to right side.

Regards,
Larry

I am not sure if all models had rain gutters or not. Personally, I think that they make the roof line look a lot cleaner and it does keep a lot of water from coming past the poor fitting trim gasket.. On lt factory installations of the earlier (1966 - 1971) cars, it was used to hide the fact that the window frame on the right side stuck out past the roof line. On the cars that I have restored, I build up the roof line to match the window frame. This also solves a problem with the rear screen fit.

Larry,

I have been building the door surround to match the window frame. I had to remove some serious material around the left window to door area. I have the old drip edge, held against body and keep opening and closing and then grinding fiberglass until a good fit is obtained. Left side appears to be close or done (I don't think this is ever done). The left door could use more fiberglass reinforcement inside, against the latch assembly. I also had to add fiberglass to the inside of the door jamb latch area, to allow for grinding to get a decent fit of the latch to striker assemblies. Starting on the right side door to window fit this week. I had fiberglassed inside the car, around the door window area to allow the outside to be ground to fit (clearancing for window frames). Thanks to your advice, I did not glass on the inside of body window area. Did not want to take up interior space. Since adding material to the door surround, the roof structure is more solid. And so it will continue.
