Hi Guys,

I'm hoping to finally start work restoring my 1970 3L volvo powered Marcos GT. The brakes are all shot. I probably need to do a full reco on the front calipers and rear wheel cylinders. What car were these sourced from? Was it a Triumph of some description, like a spitfire? I'm hoping to work out what I need and order the parts in time for Christmas.

There's a few pics of the car here. The previous owner was half way through converting it to Ford V6 power as it is a better option for vintage racing. I don't plan to race it, so I'm tempted to find a good 164 and put it back to original. The original engine got binned by the previous owner when a rod went through the block.

I'd love to get a close look at similar model 3l Ford and volvo powered cars. Anyone in and around Melbourne, Aus, got one I can look at?

Hi Folks,

Thanks for all the help. The consensus is Triumph GT6 for the front and Ford Cortina for the back. I'll try the local suppliers (better brakes & repco) to see what they have. There's a few places specialising in old British spares that might help as well. If all else fails, then there's always the internet :-)

Do hold your breath waiting for progress pics. It's taken me 7 years to get this far!

Steve,
There are a few people that have changed the front brake and spindle by using either Toyota or Nisan assemblies. Some of the vintage racers did this for better braking and availability of parts. You might put out some feelers on the Web. I know one in England that used to be here in Florida.
The rear can be adapted to Triumph TR8 brakes fairly easy.
