Marcos Information

2006-08-26 by hide809rig169

Don,
Thanks for the information on the nose pivots, I am trying to get
an idea of what I am up against on this project. I am going to "cut
out" the nose pivot braces and fabrcate new ones and probably put new
plywood in the nose. Has anyone done this that can respond on this
forum?
Another question is ground clearance. 8001 sets nose high but
there is only 2 7/8in. clearance from the oil pan to ground. The car
has a Ford 2.8L V6, front sump oil pan. The lower frame tube (behind
the front wheels) is 6in. from the ground. The fiberglass seat box
(s), under the seats, are about 3 in. from the ground. What is the
ground clearance of other cars of this type? Once again, thanks for
the help.
                   Steve V.

IMPORTANT NOTE on replacing the plywood nose supports!

After you have cut them to shape, but BEFORE you begin to bond them in, you must coat the area to be bonded with a layer of 'glass and let it cure!
If you bond them in without a set layer of glass being applied FIRST, the resin will shrink into the wood, distorting the nose, possibly causing cracks in the exterior gel-coat and paint.

I have done a LOT of 'glass work, trust me, I am right about this.

It's a Volvo 6 cyl. That's the second one recently that's been
chopped up. $10k?? That's a stretch I think. Mine must be good for
$22k or so then.

Mine is #3M5759, with Ford Essex V6. The only auto I'm recall is
Michael's in WVA. Check the Registry located in the "Files" section
of this site and you may find yours. All the 3V**** are Volvo sixes
but couldn't tell if auto or manual.

Hi Walt'

I have a '70 Marcos, it's 3litre Volvo, BW 35 auto, yellow with black interior. I purchased it from Hayes Harris at www.wirewheel.com , I think it was in April of 2002. I believe before that it resided in Cleveland Tennesse, but I'm not sure of it's entire heritage.

Let me know if it sounds familiar

Ground clearances

2006-08-29 by Don Lattimer

Steve,

Mine has the following: sump to ground - 3 inches, seat bottom to
ground - 4 1/4 inches, and frame to ground - 6 3/4 inches. Are you
sure you have the 2.8L six? Not sure if they have the front sump.
The Essex V6 in mine is an early Essex which has the front sump.
Later ones had the sump in the rear.

Hi Don!
Would you know where I can source a speed-o-meter cable assembly for a 1969 Marcos 3L V6 Essex equipped with a manual transmission? Do you know which other british car share the same cable?
Thanks,
Pat Emery
