Hello Everybody

  I haven't been active or had the time to enjoy my Marcos for about 
a year. As my wife has been very sick and recently been diagnosed 
with chronic pancreatitus and some muscular aliment I can't 
pronounce. Due to the ongoing tests to monitor her condition 
(insurance doesn't cover all of it), I know I'll never have the time 
or money to enjoy it. 
To refresh; the Marcos (5006) is an Oxford White 1966, it is left 
hand drive, approx. 30-40k miles, original sunroof and radio. Came 
with original 13" splined knock-off minilight wheels (included). 
Right now drives on 15" Panasports also splined with knock-offs. 
Includes the original 1500 ford xlnt. running engine and trans. Right 
now using a mild 2.8L v6 Capri eng. with heavy duty C3 A/T (Both 
recently rebuilt). As a driver with A/T, the car drives very nice. 
All modification required to install the V6 are bolt on and the 
original equipment will drop right back in. This is a nice Marcos, I 
wish I could keep it. Please email me any questions or of course

greatly appreciated.

So sorry to hear about your wife I hope all goes well. As far as the car can 
you e-mail me some pics. Does it have the dedion rear end? Does it have spax 
shocks? I am looking for a Marcos to vintage race do you think that this car is 
a candidate.

Again  I hope your wife is ok and you can get back into the Marcos hobby. 
What state are you in?

Dave is in Ventura, CA. DeDion cars were the early 1800 Volvo powered cars.

Thanks for your concern. It turns out her pancreas can't be operated on.
So they monitor it and hope for the best. The Marcos has a solid axle
(3.90 ratio). I have heard this works very well for racing. The shocks
are stock and since the car has low mileage on it (originally a
California car?). I bought it from Tony Handler the Rolls Royce parts
source in L.A.) Tony had owned it for years and bought it from a friend
in Hollywood who must have been the first or second owner. As for
racing.....being that it has a sunroof, if the roof structure was
reinforced (roll bar), I'm sure it would surprise lots of Loti. I will
see what I can do about getting you some digital pictures. Thanks for

Hello Hal
Yes I have the original. I gave it a quick valve job when I first had it
and it drove really nice (underpowered). Right now it has a V6 2.8L
Capri which is nice a torquey. With the 3sp Auto, it will spin the tires
in 2nd if  the pedal is held down. The frame is clean and tightly glued
together. I'm not sure it could ever bend or twist, it would probably
splinter. I tried to send you an article written about in a magazine.

Thanks for the article very well written. I will try to give you a call 
today. I am looking for a vintage racer and I am not sure if all the modifications 
that have been done will alow me in. But... with the rareity of Marcos cars 
and info I may be able to fudge a bit. Do you still have the trany if so is it 
usable if I had to change back?

Hello Hal
I still have the original trans. I am sure it would work with the stock 1.5L, but for serious racing, its so small I doubt it would hold up. Being that it’s the same trans. used by Lotus Elans, I would find out what they do to beef it up, or exchange it for a stronger design. Also remember, the V6 can be removed and put back to stock. As I said in the article, a stock 1.5L can be build up to 160hp, but it will need beefing up and constant overhauls for that sort of performance. Another option would be to buy a current 1.6L engine from a front wheel drive English Escort. These motors look like the 1.5L, but are very common and upgradeable. Check the internet for info. BTW, where do you live?

        I live in Colo. and this weekend we have the English car conclave and 
Rocky Mtn vintage racing {R.M.V.R} will have a booth set up and I will ask 
them how the rules work. I think for racing having a 4 speed may be more 
advantages? I know they say { R.M.V.R} you can only beef the car up to the limits of 
the year of production.What time of day can I reack you?

To be sure, I'll be home after 7:00pm. Ask them how they treat safety
improvements, like larger size wheels, stronger 5-sp transmissions,
brakes, roll bars, etc. These things were available in 66, but they
didn't use roll cages back then.

frame, the Marcos could be trailered to you for about 800.

I hope to come out with Kelvin. It depends on how my wife is feeling.
I'll keep you posted. I believe I have all the original parts organized
in boxes and stuff. I found a set of adjustable Spax shocks in the
bottom of a box. They are very dirty, but don't look like they were ever
installed.
