No 4th gear - Thanks

No 4th gear - Thanks

2002-11-01 by Don Lattimer

Hi all,

Thanks for all the suggestions, etc. My local hospital and
insurance company have just provided me with option #5: $29,500
bill for a 6 day stay in the hospital! That doesn't include the
doctor, anesthesiologist, etc. Now I AM sick!

Aside from that I guess I listed my options as my own preferences.
I've always tended to remain true to the originality of my British
cars. The only one I had that tended to increase in value with
upgrades/modifications was the Jensen-Healey. Of course anything
that you changed helped a JH!

I suppose it's time to pull the engine/trans and get to work
repairing what I have. I spoke with Mike Denman yesterday and
because 4th won't engage even on the highway (by matching revs) it
would seem that the internal arm/lever that moves that synchro is
bent, gone, etc. Whatever, it's coming out.

Now, can someone tell me what gearbox is in the V6? I know it's a
Ford gearbox. It's from the Zodiac but is it a Type F, Type 4,
etc.? It has two external arms, one on the left hand side and one
on the right.

Where can I get parts?? Anybody have any experience with this?

Thanks,

Don Lattimer

Don,

I've not tried to get parts, but looking for info on the gearbox I
came across a link to someone selling new parts for the Zephyr.

The e-mail is : ed.prothero@... - I guess he's in the UK, but
might be worth contacting - Parts prices were very reasonable.

Cheers,

Mark
