Insurance for Marcos GT

Dear All,

I am currently negotiating for a 1970 Ford Essex V6 GT and am about
to embark down the dark road of insurance acquisition.

Therefore, your personal experiences with recommendations, tips, etc.
would be appreciated very much.

Most sincerely,

Svelte Bat

Svelte,
I insure with Hagerty Ins. I think it was $108/year this year. I can drive the car 3000 miles/year to shows, etc. It is insured for $15000. Check out hteir website. www.hagerty.com There are different options available, Normal insurance agencies don't even know what a Marcos is!
It can all be accomplished on the internet. Just need to send a pic.
Where did you find the car?? Seattle?? There was one on Ebay a couple of times last year but no bids and we didn't get the owner's name, etc. Said it had been redone by the factory or something to that efffect.
Keep us posted!!

Dear Don,

Your a Charm!

Thank You so very much for your advice and I will contact them asap. I've not yet purchased this car and am still negotiating for it through a source/sources in England. It's a RHD and the more I think about it the better I like it!

I will let you know as soon as everything, hopefully, can be worked out.

With best regards and thank you again!

Dear Don,

I've attempted to "enter a quote" at the insurance company that you
mentioned but it seems to be inactive and I keep getting "inactive"
and/or "timed out" error messages on it.

Also, this is insurance for classic cars used on a very limited
basis. Therefore, if you or any additional members can further assist
me with insurance for a 1970 Marcos GT I would appreciate it very
much.

I really doubt that every Marcos owner in the U.S. only use their
cars for special events although I may be wrong!

With best regards,

Svelte

I'm not in the US and don't know how many owners are sole car owners,
but in the UK an effective way to insurance a Marcos as your only car
for year round use is via the insurers who provide cover for kit cars.

You might find that a better approach if you need full, year round,
unlimited mileage cover.

Cheers,

Mark

hello group,
when i have insured my "summer" cars i have used a company up here
in canada called "silver wheels" they insure strictly street rods and
special interest vehicles, the premium is based on an appraised value,
which we all should have for insurance claim purposes.
      try contacting www.lant-ins.ca
                cheers dave #5577

Hi Svelte,

Like Dave Barton, I live just outside Toronto in Canada. My 3 litre Volvo
Marcos is insured by the same company that insures my other cars. I'm fully
covered for unlimited use for around CAN$80 per month. I only have the car
on the road from mid April through November, after which it is on winter
layup at around CAN$10 per month for a total cost of just over CAN$600/year.
Unfortunately my insurance company only operates in Canada but at least you
have an idea of costs. This year they requested that I supply a new
appraisal, including photos, after which my rate went up from around CAN$65
last year but it's still cheaper than my regular car so I'm not complaining.

Regards,

Svelte
I have my 1971 insured under a general use third car program with
Farmers. The special use polices that Don has have a huge $$$ savings. I
would look at all the options, but make sure the company understands the HP
of the car, you don't want the Vett (high HP) or race car rate.

I checked out the site last night and it worked fine. They have a 5000+ miles/year option that I will probably switch to. I have put on 8000+ miles since April of this year. Try it again or give them a call.
