Don,
I have don this modification to my Sprite years ago. It is pretty
easy. I plan on converting the Marcos to an alternator when I get to
that part of hte restoration. The wiring is easy plus you eliminate
the regulator also. I used an alternator from a Mazda sedan. The
actual model alternator is not as important as the hook up
terminals. Get one that has three terminals; one for the 12 volts to
the battery, one for the idiot light, and one to the battery.
There is a newer style altinator out on some of the newer Japanese
cars that is physically half the size of the alternators used in the
80 & 90's. I think that they would make a great choice. As far a
brackets go you will have to modify or make one from a standard
bracket. Not to hard to do, start with a standard GM bracket and cut
away.
BTW - If a Essex V6 uses the same generator as my 1600, I may have a
generator for sale or trade.
