RE: [MarcosManiacs] Ford 3L

2002-05-09 by Jeff Caraway

Bark.... Bark! ;-)
I understand where you're coming from. My engine is out of a 74 Capri
(probably close to their pinnacle of performance).
After that, they added more and more emissions stuff and got slower and
slower.

It will indeed be interesting to see what Vic decides. I've though about
changing mine out to a V8 myself, but only because the department of
motor vehicles was giving me grief over inspecting the darned thing as
it is.

Down boy! Down! I made the comment because Vic wants a more modern
engine, which will probably have emission controls. I had a 2.8 litre
Ford Capri a few years ago and it ran like a dog. My brother had a
similar car in England without emission controls and it went like the
clappers (it was fast). I wouldn't want Vic to go to all that trouble
and be disappointed with the result. It will be interesting to see what
he comes up with and how it performs in the end.

Regards,
                Paul

Hey now! My non-emission equipped 2.8 liter does pretty darned good!
(Barks second gear every time!).
And it's not even really hot-rodded. Yet. ;-)

Vic,

You should bear in mind that the Essex engine wasn't restricted by
emission
controls and, depending on your choice of engine, you could end up with
significantly worse performance, especially with a 2.8.

I am going to start a project to replace the 3L Essex engine and
gearbox with a far more modern engine, if anybody has taken on this
task and can give some ideas I would very much appreciate it.

I am thinking a 2.8L five speed gearbox option.

Vic
