Re: V8 Marcos

Hi Donny,
The trans is an aluminum casing with a finned sump .....it has
an integral pump in the output end to lube the output shaft bearing
.........reverse is to the left and down.......I have researched the
application for this trans and have found that the gears are machined
matched at the factory.........they were used in exported P5 and P5B
Rovers with 3.5 litres from 1969-1974 mostly in Italy for police cars.
As far as the chassis goes the engine sits about an inch back from
the cross tube in front of the cowl. You will have to cut the footboxes
to allow clearance for the exhausts I moved my footboxes in 3.5" and
went back the full depth of the footbox.
You will also have to notch the frame rails for pipe clearance as well
as clearance for the starter. From there back the pipes just follow the
framerails and exit either side of the boot pan.
I will have to invest in a digital camera ........a picture is worth
10,000 words in this case.
Hope this helps Donny.Talk to you later
     Cheers Dave #5577

the later 1970's Rover was using a nice five-speed M-77 that found its
way into the later TR-7's and TR-8's, as well as the SD1 sedans
(commonly used as police cars in England in the 1980's). This was
mated to a 3.5 liter Rover V8 for the SD1's and TR-8s. Land Rover,
Morgan and other also used this gearbox. It is easily identified by a
ribbed iron case and reverse gear to the left and up. Is this possibly
what you you have?

back together. How far back in the chassis is your engine located? My
original V-4 is mounted very forward, so much so that most of the
bellhousing is visible ahead of the top frame member by the firewall.
I was planning to relocate the engine as far back as I can when it
gets replaced. Also, where do the exhaust manifolds (headers?) let out
on your car? - Thanks! - Donny 2M 5846?
