RE: [MarcosManiacs] Spring compressor?

2002-04-16 by pauldransfield@iname.com

Don,

If I remember correctly, the shocks and springs have to be removed from the
car intact and then separated using a spring compressor. Around where I
live, there are places that will lend a spring compressor for free or a
nominal fee as a customer service. It's a fairly straightforward job.

While I'm here, you Volvo owners should be aware that a lot of the major
components and service items are available through various online websites.
The best prices I've found so far are at http://www.jagworks.com/. They also
have some applicable Triumph parts available as well. I went looking for a
few parts from my local Volvo dealer and found that they could supply most
of what I wanted but at ridiculous prices. I was looking for a valve cover
gasket for which Volvo wanted over $14 but is available at the above website
for a little over $4. There's a freight charge if the order is under $75, so
I'm going to be ordering a few things. The cylinder head gasket set is $45
as opposed to $70 (from Volvo, though it's no longer available). There are
some parts that are not in stock, including the water pump I wanted as a
spare, so I'm curious to see if they can actually deliver. Unfortunately,
there are some parts that are ONLY available from Volvo, like new geargox
oil seals and most of the bearings, for example, but it really helps if you
have the part numbers. Volvo part numbers for the 3 litre Volvo were
published in Marcos Magazine issues 22 through 26. If anyone needs parts
number information, let me know and I'll look them up.

Regards,

Hi!

Do I need a spring compressor in order to change my springs and shocks??
I know the spring length is 12" but with the car jacked up is the
extension great enuf to allow removal without a compressor?
