Hi Paul
From what I understand , and I am not a suspension builder ,
the shorter the spring (the more it is compressed)the stiffer the ride
The shock controls the jounce (the rebounding of the suspension)
Herb Adams who is the designer of the early Pontiac Trans-Ams
suspension has
a great book out on the subject and he recommends using shorter
springs with the same spring rate as stock and stock shocks to improve
handling without harshening the ride.
